2K Games officially announced the details for WWE 2K15’s 2K Showcase, a new story-driven single-player campaign for the upcoming WWE video game. The new game mode will highlight two prolific rivalries in WWE history, Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels from 2002 to 2004 and John Cena vs. CM Punk from 2011 to 2013.
2K VP of Marketing, Chris Snyder said on the announcement: “The moment Triple H ended his longtime friendship with ‘The Heartbreak Kid’ by slamming him with a Pedigree was a defining moment in WWE history. No fan can deny the fierce competition marking the notorious battles waged between Cena and Punk. These two rivalries are firmly etched in WWE history, and 2K Showcase enables fans to take part in those memorable experiences.”
According to the release, 2K Showcase will highlight the rivalries through documentary-style video packages featuring actual WWE footage, Superstar commentary, and cut scenes. The game modes for the rivalries will feature 33 available matches where players have to complete a set of bonus historical objects in order to unlock new WWE Superstars, title belts, and alternate attires. Once these additions are unlocked, they will be available in all other game modes.
To fans who might be disappointed with these being the two rivalries for the Story Mode, there is some good news. 2K Games plans on incorporating additional rivalries to 2K Showcase later on. The new rivalries will be available via downloadable content after the game’s initial release. So if you are scratching your head over the inclusion of Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels over say, Shawn Michaels vs. Bret Hart, well maybe that feud could be incorporated to the game later.
WWE executive Paul “Triple H” Levesque commented on the news, saying: “Featuring two of the biggest rivalries in WWE history, including my storied matches with Shawn Michaels, there’s no doubt fans will experience the thrill first-hand through WWE 2K15. 2K Showcase brings WWE to life in a way our fans have never seen before through a video game.”
WWE 2K15 will be available for the PS4, Xbox One, PS3, and Xbox 360 on October 28 in North America and October 31 internationally.
