UPDATE: In an update from our report yesterday, there is now talk in WWE of a possible swerve at Money in the Bank that would see Randy Orton win the WWE title. This would then lead to a triple threat match featuring himself vs. Roman Reigns vs. John Cena at Battleground. Of course, they could do a Randy Orton vs. John Cena singles match for the title at Battleground but that would leave Reigns without an opponent at the pay-per-view and they are trying to heavily push him right now. The plan as of at least two weeks ago was for John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar for the WWE title to headline SummerSlam. After word of that leaked out, WWE was not happy and may now be trying to swerve the fans for at least the next month or so as reported.
ORIGINAL: Despite the earlier report of Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton being locally advertised for WWE Battleground, some different plans are in mind for WWE’s upcoming PPV events.
There is reportedly some talk backstage to hold off Roman Reigns vs. Triple H until the Night of Champions PPV. The reasoning is because that it would help push WWE Network renewals that are set to expire at the end of August. If WWE goes that route, Roman Reigns vs. Kane would happen at Battleground. The Reigns vs. Orton match would then take place at Summerslam.
