Tomorrow in Mexico, Sarita vies for her seventh consecutive victory in Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre’s annual bodybuilding contest. Speaking to Jim Varsallone of The Miami Herald, the internationally acclaimed wrestler discussed her training routine for the competition.
“I train throughout the year, but about 12 weeks out from the competition, I start to change my diet and increase the intensity of my workouts,” said Sarita, who is 5-6 and 120-pounds. “It’s a lot of chicken, eggs, fish, beef, vegetables, and some oatmeal and little fruit. I start to do more plyometrics, push-ups and jumping and do more high-intensity interval training. I also continue to train wrestling so that my body adjusts, and I’m able to remain agile and balanced in the ring as I’m dropping weight.”
While training for the competition, Sarita maintains her wrestling career, which also includes traveling, training and carrying food on every road trip. She looks at it as a challenge.
“Weeks before, everyone’s talking about their diets and comparing bodies. We are wrestlers, not bodybuilders, so it’s an interesting challenge trying to reach your body’s potential while dealing with traveling, wrestling, training and carrying food with you on every road trip. Everyone looks at the contest as a way to get into great shape and show dedication to our fans, to the sport and to CMLL,” said Sarita.
