Hans Schmidt Passes Away, Primo/Epico/WWC, More

— The World Wrestling Council in Puerto Rico has announced that Primo and Epico will take on former WWE stars Shelton Benjamin and John Morrison at the promotion’s Anniversario show. It takes place June 30th.

— Hans Schmidt, one of the top heels in the early days of wrestling on national television, passed away on Saturday at the age of 87. He had been hospitalized the past few weeks with fluid in his lungs. His funeral is set for Wednesday at 10AM.

Schmidt, real name Guy LaRose, was one of pro wrestling’s biggest drawing stars in the Fred Kohler promotion out of Chicago that ran weekly on the DuMont Network. Schmidt parlayed that exposure as a German heel (he was actually from Quebec) to being able to work nationally and Kohler’s outfit being able to garner a strong percentage of the gate to get him. At one time, he was thought to have been one of the highest paid athletes in the country.

On behalf of all of us here on the website, we would like to send out condolences to his family, friends and fans.
