Ex-TNA Knockout ‘Retiring’ From Pro Wrestling

The UK Sun recently spoke with Taylor Wilde, here are the highlights…

On Retiring: “I had a couple of months left on my contract, but I made a decision pretty much when I first started working for a major wrestling company (WWE) that wrestling is a wonderful job, it’s a lot of fun and you get to travel the world. In my early twenties it was very lucrative, but I told myself that when I was 25, if it was an industry I could see myself doing for the rest of my life I’d keep going, but otherwise it was time to hang up my boots.”

On Signs That Helped Her Decision: “I did a couple of conventions not that long ago where I was surrounded by women who had been somebody. Recognizable wrestling faces. They’ll do autograph signings pregnant, because it’s what they have to do to earn money. At the end of the day, as much as I love professional wrestling, if I were to retire when I was 40, and all I had done my whole life was yelling at a camera, wearing really tiny wrestling gear and punching other people in the face, it wouldn’t look so good on a CV.”

On Her Time In TNA: “I have nothing but good things to say about TNA. If it wasn’t for my experiences there I wouldn’t be the person I am today. But the way things were going, I just felt I needed a change. With the state of the company and the way they were using me, there wasn’t a lot for me to keep me going either. I’ve done a lot of the things I wanted to do, and there aren’t many opportunities left for me.”

On the Short Shelf Life For Female Wrestlers: “As a female wrestler you are marketed to be cute, sexy, have a banging body and be full of life. You’re not so cute when you are 30, 35, 40. And that’s not a shot at older women. But as far as television goes, and what your body can take, our biological clocks are ticking. For most of us women we are marketed on our appearance, and that has a much shorter shelf life than any man in this industry.”
