Ring of Honor Results – 9/26/09
Location: New York, New York
Results courtesy of ROHwrestling.com:
Estimates of 1200-1500 people at the event. Hot crowd all night with lots of vulgar chants.
1) Colt Cabana over Rhett Titus with the Billy Goat’s Curse. Ryan Clark note: Good match to start off the show. There was lots of comedy here. Loud ‘You Suck D*ck’ chants at Rhett.
2) Dark City Fight Club over Up in Smoke via Double Powerbomb Combo. Ryan Clark note: Not much offense for Up In Smoke. Cheech is so SMALL but so good! Dark City Fight Club was way over with lots of ‘DCFC’ chants.
3) Claudio Castagnoli over Kenny Omega- Claudio comes out with a black glove on and slaps Omega with it. Omega has a grey glove in his trunks and slaps double C with it. During the match claudio does a spinning torture rack and at the end of it uses no hands. Claudio wins by holding the ref low blows Omega and hits him with a upper cut for the win. Ryan Clark note: Castagnoli is amazing. He hit a no handed Airplane Torture Rack which was unreal.
Bret Hart comes out and put over the NYC fans and his history in New York. Ryan Clark note: Bret basically sucked up to the New York crowd. He put over wrestlers who are ‘no longer with us’ including Curt Henning. This was OK but nothing worth noting. Crowd was silent and respected him as he spoke.
It was announced that Ring Of Honor returns to New York on December 19, when they present Final Battle 2009 in the Hammerstein Ballroom. Ryan Clark note: We’ll be there!
4) Four Corner Survival Roderick Strong over Delirious, Sonjay Dutt, Grizzly Redwood via a Super Elevated Gibson Driver pinned Sonjay Dutt. Ryan Clark note: Good match. Grizzly is great comedy!
5) LADDER WAR 2
The American Wolves over Kevin Steen and El Generico Eddie is scheduled for surgery (broken elbow) on Thursday but he fights tonight. Wolves retain as Eddie has Generico in a leg lock on the ladder and Davey get the belts! Steen was taken out by a ladder and table by Davey. Generico did a Sunset Bomb off the ladder through a table also! Ryan Clark note: Lots of big bumps through lots and lots of stuff. Chairshots were kind of weak though. Big spots include a sunset bomb off the top of a HUGE ladder and into a table and Generico’s plancha through an open ladder, plus Steen falling off a ladder into another ladder and a table. Eddie Edwards was way over, likely because the crowd knew he was working a broken elbow.
Intermission.
6) Chris Hero over Eddie Kingston kick off the second half of the show. Hero wins with the Rolling Elbow. Hero uses his own silver and red loaded elbow pad. Hero was busted open during the match in the middle of the forehead. Ryan Clark note: Blah.
7) Austin Aries drew BRET HART out of his lucky hat….but Petey Williams comes out for Aries over Petey for the ROH World Title. Ryan Clark note: Petey tried so hard to be a good face and it didn’t work. That promo was awful. Aries wins by countout after a brainbuster on the outside. Crowd boo’ed at some points during this was. Petey hit a freakin’ Canadian destroyer off the TOP ROPE which was INSANE. Unreal.
Jim Cornette is in the building and is now the Executive Producer of ROH on HDNET. Does promos on WWE and TNA, including this comment: “Sarah Palin will give Barack Obama a lap dance on the steps of the capital before I get behind Vince Russo”. Ryan Clark note: Cornette at one point assured us we will never see Leprechauns beating up grown men or men holding women’s title. Cornette was WAY over. Lots of vulger chants here of ‘F*ck Vince Russo’ and ‘F*uck TNA’. Cornette promised that Aries would defend the title against real competition from now on, Aries promises to get him fired. He says something along the lines of he’ll be the first one to get fired from WWE, TNA, and ROH which got a good heel pop.
8) The Young Bucks over Jay and Mark Briscoe Bucks hit “More bang for ya buck” on Jay. Ryan Clark note: I expected more here but it was still very good.
9) The Final Countdown
Bryan Danielson over Nigel McGuinness-Just starting ring got peppered with streamers more for Bryan then Nigel. Dragon wins with a triangle choke and elbows. Ryan Clark note: Both cut promos afterwards and were way over. No ‘You Sold Out’ chants or anything like that. Nigel put over ROH and owner Cary Silkin, as well as jokingly calling Danielson a “clam digger,” before putting him over as well and crediting Danielson as ROH’s best wrestler. Danielson got on the mic and thanked everybody, but also insisted that the best matches from this year weren’t his. Danielson claimed that The American Wolves, Roderick Strong and Austin Aries (who he deemed his best rival) were all having better matches than him. Danielson thanked Cary Silkin for taking ROH and “pulling it from the rubble.” Danielson thanked Nigel for being the best opponent he has ever fought and thanked Todd Sinclair for being the best referee ever, claiming that the two traveled together everywhere. Danielson even put over the doctor in the back, stating that he loves him too. Danielson also said that ROH is his favorite place to have ever wrestled and as his last request he wants the fans to always support ROH, even after he and Nigel are gone. Danielson says that without ROH he would’ve been another wrestler doing boring rest holds. Some guys in the audience shouted for Danielson to punch Cena in the ear to which he responded “I’ll walk right up to that sonuvabitch and….!” (cocks fist) to THUNDEROUS laughter and applause. This prompted a “He’s Gonna Get His Fuckin’ Head Kicked In,” chant. Danielson’s response this time: “Not if I can’t see him!” (makes gesture) Finally, Danielson requested that Final Countdown be played one last time and thanked everybody again.
Ryan Clark note: Overall, a really good show from top to bottom. Definitely worth the three hour drive down followed by a three hour drive back up north to Albany which got us back here around 5AM after a few drinks in Manhattan! The show went nearly five hours and fans didn’t leave the place until after 12:30AM. I also met up with a TPWW.net reader! If you’re reading bud shoot me an email at Webmaster@ProWrestlingScoops.com.
