World Wrestling Entertainment has signed a 22-year-old New Jersey based women’s wrestler by the name of Miss April (real name April Jeanette) to a developmental contract — the first such signing since Natalya Neidhart in January 2007. This is coming off the heels of the tryout camp held at WWE’s developmental facility in Tampa two weeks ago.
April had been wrestling for several independent promotions in the Tri-State Region including National Wrestling Superstars and Women Superstars Unleashed.
National Wrestling Superstars issued the following press release this morning:
“National Wrestling Superstars management along with the entire locker room sends congratulations to Miss April on her WWE contract. April, who was the winner (along with TNA’s Jay Lethal) of the NWS King & Queen Tournament just this past April has been a bright note on the indy scene where women have a hard time competing with men for the spotlight April, along with her partner Brooke Carter, won the WSU tag team titles from Roxxie Cotton and Annie Social at an NWS event held in Edison this past February. Ms April is also the second NWS King & Queen winner to move on to the WWE as was Kara Slice aka Cherry Pie as both these female dynamos made many a stride whilst in the NWS territory.”
