Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat defeated Randy Savage for the Intercontinental title, this was the first time that the IC title changed hands at WM.
WM FACTS:

– Wrestlemania III featured not only the classic Savage/Steamboat match which is one of the greatest matches of all time, but saw the “Passing of the Guard” as Andre the Giant lost to Hulk Hogan in the main event of Wrestlemania III.
– Roddy Piper’s Retirement match up at III was just another Wrestling cliche, as Piper went on wrestling wll over a decade, even facing off with Bret Hart at Wrestlemania 7 for the Intercontinetal title.
– Brutus Beefcake’s Barber Gimmick debuted at Wrestlemania III as after partner Greg Valentine turned on Beefcake in the Dream Team’s match with Rougeau Brothers, Beefcake returned in the aftermath of Piper’s retirement match up with Adrian Adonis to clip Adonis’s hair.
– Entertainers, Mary Hart, Bob Ueker, Aretha Franklin, and Alice Cooper all took part in Wrestlemania III in some shape or form.
– The Tag team titles were not defended at Wrestlemania III as the current tag team champions at the time, the Hart Foundation participated in a 6 man tag.
– Ricky Steamboat after his classic match up with Randy Savage at Wrestlemania III went on to lose the Intercontinental title weeks later to the self proclaimed “Greatest Intercontinental Champion of All time,” The Honky Tonk Man.
