Alberto El Patron remains suspended by GFW after the airport incident with Paige last month. He did not appear at any of GFW’s TV tapings this past week, which were for 12 weeks of shows, meaning that if he does return, he won’t be back until November at the earliest.
Interestingly, at last week’s GFW Destination X episode, when Bruce Prichard came out and announced that Alberto was dropping the GFW title, he said that he “wishes him the best in his future endeavors.” Obviously, that’s something that WWE says to wrestlers who are released from the company.
Jim Cornette then came out and sort of buried Alberto. Alberto released a statement claiming that it was his idea to voluntarily drop the title, but Cornette specifically said on TV that he did not relinquish the belt… he was stripped of the belt. He then said that from now on, wrestlers would “have to prove that they can conduct themselves like professionals and how champions should outside the ring.”
“Mr. Patron, for one thing, did not relinquish this championship belt. He was stripped of this championship belt. And I’m here on behalf of corporate to tell everybody that it’s a new day from this point onward. We’re not gonna have big stars come in here and say they’re on vacation and think they’re gonna waltz to the top. And nobody is being given anything. They’re gonna have to fight for it. And the Global Force athletes are gonna have to get in this ring and prove how good they are to the other wrestlers and they’re also gonna have to prove to you fans that they can conduct themselves like professionals and how champions should outside the ring or they’re gonna be dealing with me.”
However, with all that said, as of now, Alberto remains suspended and GFW hasn’t released him, so they either plan on bringing him back eventually or they’re just stalling for some reason until they release him.
